Friday I'm In Love

Happy Friday Folks! This week I found a great video company based in Palmerston North called Nicklin Visuals and they do these fabulous wedding trailers! That's right, you can have your very own movie trailer from your wedding video.

This lovely trailer above includes the gorgeous Brooke and Mike from their wedding in Malolo Lai Lai, Fiji.

I just love all the little intimate details - the handwritten note, the guests faces, the hand carved tree and of course the skipping at the end!

Check out more of these gorgeous Wedding Trailers and videos at their Vimeo Page here.

Enjoy your weekend x

Pick of the Month: Ranunculas

The Pick of the Month for this month is Ranunculas. I just love everything about them, they are so sweet and soft and have oodles of petals AND come in a great range of colours. They are a great winter flower but also great for spring weddings too.

They are currently very on trend for bridal bouquets, whether just on their own or paired with roses, peonies or other seasonal flowers. They are also great for buttonholes and table settings too. I love that rustic table setting below with it's mixed array of colours and different vases.

They are also a great choice as once cut, they last upto a week so will look super fresh all day long.

Check out our 'The Flowers' Pinterest page for some more awesome ideas.

Gorgeous In Grey

I know it's still Autumn, but truly it feels like Winter with the weather we're having at the moment, so I thought I'd take some inspiration from the Grey skies and put it into some stunning wedding images for you! I've seen lots of inspiration of Grey matched with peach, yellow, blue hues and pink, but Grey on it's own teamed with white can look just as equally as stunning. I absolutely adore these beautiful flowers and the place setting I actually want for my dinner table - plus who would say no to a gorgeous pair of Chanel heels!

Tea Towels

Ok, so by reading the heading of this blog post you're probably thinking... what the? Why would The Big Day be blogging about tea towels? Well when I came across these tea towels that can actually be wedding invitations (or used for 'thank you's', save the dates or even wedding favours) I thought they would be perfect to blog about! I actually think this is quite a unique idea, and I do think if I had one of these in my tea towel drawer from a friend or family member's wedding, it would definitely be a fun reminder of their day!

The company who makes these goodies is Invitation Tea Towels based in Sydney and can ship to NZ. You can choose your design from their range or customise your own and they use good quality cotton, linen or linen cotton blend and will even do custom cut and sewn hemp on request. They can also screen print personalised name tags, napkins and even table runners if you want to extend the theme into your actual wedding! Well done Invitation Tea Towels for a very cool concept - I think the only problem I would have is choosing what design I wanted!

Friday I'm In Love

Happy Friday! How gorgeous was Ang B's Great Gatsby inspiration board on Wednesday and inspired post yesterday? I'm so very much looking forward to seeing the movie, I'm sure Leonardo DiCaprio is fantastic and I can't wait to check out those amazing 1920's glam outfits!

Today's Friday I'm In Love comes all the way from Dixie Pixel Photography in Knoxville, Tennessee - courtesy of Moment Junkie. I love love love these ladies reactions to seeing the bride for the first time, the facial expressions of both of these ladies is just priceless! Images like these are just magic and are a perfect addition to a more formal wedding album, and Tara at Dixie Pixel Photography captures it perfectly. If you have a minute, do check out some of the very fabulous images on Tara's website, I love this one - it reminds me in someways of a scene from the Forrest Gump movie with that fabulous tree! x

Great Gatsby Inspiration

Following on from yesterday's Great Gatsby Mood Board, I just had to share with you some wee gems of inspiration I found from other great bloggers from around the globe.

As I mentioned, the fashion (and wedding world) is rife with Gatsby fever! And here are three styled photoshoots for you to drool over.

The first is from Jenn & Derrek Sullivan with Flora + Fauna. Set in Florida in the 1920s built The Ribault Club and featuring a drool worthy gown from BHLDN. See the feature here on Green Wedding Shoes for all the gorgeous photos and full list of credits.

Great Gatsby

With the upcoming release of Baz Luhrmann's movie "The Great Gatsby", the vintage trend of 1920s fashion is just about to get even hotter. This theme has already been labelled one of the 10 hottest wedding trends for 2013. This look will re-introduce the flapper style fashion, art deco patterns and stunning headpieces.

The 1920s brings with it stuch a classic formal look, but you can really go to town with all the little details and really add your own stamp of personality.

For your stationary, think thick card stock, black and white 20s fonts and lashings of gold and ivory. For the dresses (oh the dresses!), just imagine something right out of the movie Atonement or Downton Abby - Ooodles of layered silk and chiffons, adorned with embellishments, sequins and embroidery (check out the Willow Dress by Jenny Packham in the top left photo!). And for the accessories, don't be without a stunning show stopping headpiece, stunning stilletos and gorgeous sparkly jewels.

I just love this era and so excited that the 'Flappers Fashion' is back. Now where's my faux fur, gloves and red lippie...I feel a movie night coming up!

Mini Moon • Hawkes Bay

I hope your Mother's Day yesterday was wonderful - whether you are a Mum yourself or were able to be thankful for your own Mum, Grandma or special and inspiring lady. It is important to make sure that you tell your loved ones how much you love them, and what's great about Mother's Day is that you have a perfect opportunity to make sure they know how special they are to you!

You might be wondering what a mini moon is... well it's basically a mini honeymoon.  The thing with a mini moon though is while it can totally replace the extravagant fortnight or more long honeymoon (and perfect if you don't want to spend a fortune after a possible budget-blowing wedding), it doesn't necessarily have to be in place of a honeymoon as such, it can actually be a short weekend away before the big day (a bit like a baby moon - a weekend away before baby arrives), or a mini honeymoon in place of a larger trip planned for later in the year.

Last year I went on an absolutely fabulous long weekend away to the Hawkes Bay with my hubby, and while it wasn't a mini moon (a wedding anniversary trip actually!), it is definitely a perfect destination for one. In my other life I'd love to be a travel writer (you know those people that get paid to go on holiday and then write about it!), so I'm sure over time I'm going to bring you lots more mini moon stories! Read more for a run down of Hawkes Bay and why you should consider it for a mini moon! x

Friday I'm In Love

Happy Friday Folks!

Unless you have had your head under the marketing pillow for the last month, you will have been bombarded with the lead up to Mother's Day this Sunday. My own Mum was so sure it was last weekend so rung to wish me a Happy Mother's Day last Sunday as 'surely their can't be another week of this carry on'. Funny.

This weeks Friday I'm In Love is one for all the Mum's out there. A very cool Mother and Son wedding dance, I just love that this Mum totally rocks it alongside her boy! One to get you groovin in your seat for sure.

Happy Mother's Day to all those mum's out there. Hope you get loads of love showered on you for the hardest (and most satisfying) job of them all.

Gifts for the Gals

So, you are needing a fabulous gift for that special lady in your life? Whether it be your Bridesmaid, Sister, Friend or your Mum, here are some super chic gold pendants that will have your favourite gal oooing and ahhhhing.

Jewellery makes for a very thoughtful gift, and I'm just loving the latest trend of the monogram necklace. Initial pendants are adorning the necks of celebrities all over the world, whether they just be a simple round engraved plate or a diamond encrusted letter.

I love the idea of giving a pendant to the ladies in your bridal party and if you pick it right, it's one that they will be willing to wear everyday as a reminder of you and your happy day.
