Awards Season Inspiration: Baftas + Grammys 2013

Hello friends, I trust you had a great weekend. I managed to get out of Christchurch to the fabulous West Coast for some wonderful celebrations with dear school friends and family. I love going back to my home town and the mighty Coast did not disappoint, the weather and views were stunningI I was also very impressed to hear that so many of our nearest and dearest are following our blog with such interest and I'm hoping this next post doesn't disappoint.

Last weekend was pretty full on with both the 2013 Grammy Awards and the 2013 BAFTAs on the same day.

There was some interesting looks on the carpet and a more conservative feel to the Grammys this year with a communication going out for our stars to tone it down (some obviously didn't bother reading the memo!).

There was still a nod to bridal couture, but you would be a braver soul than me to rock some of these interesting frocks.

Read more to see my pick of the best from both awards, which one tickles your fancy?

Custom Inspiration Boards

There is so much wedding inspiration out there it can sometimes seem so overwhelming trying to decide on even the smallest things, and then trying not to change your mind later on! I remember purchasing the fabric for my bridesmaids dresses and then a few days later wondering if I had chosen the right colour and spending a couple of weeks considering other options before finally settling on the colour I had already picked in the first place! That could just be me... but I definitely sympathise with anyone struggling with the decision making process!

We've decided we'd love to help you in your wedding planning journey and do some gorgeous custom inspiration boards for a lucky few of our wonderful readers! All you have to do is make sure you like us on Facebook and then email us at hello@thebigday.co.nz, telling us a little about your wedding plans and we will select four of our lucky readers to have their very own custom inspiration board made for them - exciting!  We will then get in touch with the four lucky readers with some questions so we can make sure we create the best custom board inspiring your big day.

Also make sure you go and have a look at The Inspiration page for some of our beautiful The Big Day wedding inspiration! x

Friday I'm In Love

Wow it's Friday again...how quickly is this month going?!? I hope there was some nice Valentine's treats out there for you, or even just a chance to tell your loved one, how much they mean to you.

Everyone knows I love a good wedding, and for me, one of my favourite moments of the day is watching the groom (even if for just a quick peak) as the bride makes her grand entrance.

The next time you are at a wedding be sure to catch a glimpse of the proud man waiting at the alter while everyone else's eyes are focused on the stunning bride. You will see a wave of emotion from the groom - excitement, joy, happiness, nervousness, anticipation...and you may just catch a glimpse of pure unrequited love.

I just love this montage of images and had to share with you all.

Happy Friday! x

Be My Valentine

Happy Valentine's Day to all you lovers out there!

If you are planning a wedding in February, I love the idea of using 'Valentines' as a theme.

There are so many amazing ideas you can use for this love inspired theme. For me, it's all about the heart!

I was swooning over this Giant Heart Welcome Board. What a great idea to have to welcome all your guests and show a hint of what's to follow. This gradient cake looks A-MA-ZING, almost too good to eat. Surely one of those cake layers is red velvet. The heart shaped balloons are a great idea for wedding photos or just for decoration. Of course you should have a kissing booth at your wedding!!! I really love this retro style booth and great for guests to have photos between the ceremony and reception. Yummmm heart shaped macarons, what will they think of next. And you just can't have a Valentine's Day Inspiration Board without showing the classic Vivienne Westwood heart shoe. Just imagine all the fun you can have with this fabulous theme, it will surely be a wedding to remember.

P.S don't be afraid to use a love/heart themed wedding any time of the year. You really can make any day of the year your very own custom made Valentine's Day!

The Professionals • Coralee & Alex

I get very excited when we welcome a fabulous New Zealand wedding professional to The Professionals on The Big Day and today is absolutely no exception! The wonderful and super-cool Coralee & Alex are now one of The Big Day recommended professionals and I get the very easy job of telling you how absolutely fabulous they are! We have previously featured some work by Coralee & Alex in one of our Friday I'm In Love features and every time I check out their blog I am just blown away by the stunning and creative images they take.

Coralee & Alex (check out the image below of this lovely couple) are a husband and wife team who were married in 2008 and have been head over heels in love with weddings ever since. Based in Auckland, but will travel wherever the love takes them to shoot a wedding day - how great is that for couples around New Zealand and further! What I absolutely love about Coralee & Alex's approach is how they like to get to know their couples before a wedding, whether it be for an engagement session or as many coffee dates as you can possibly fit in - they do say, 'we recokon the better friends we are by your wedding day, the better your images will turn out!' - that is such a great philosophy as speaking from experience, it's so great to have people you feel comfortable with around you on your wedding day, it makes it all that more relaxed.

You can find out more about Coralee & Alex here, or check out their blog for some wedding goodness. I am loving a recent Brick Bay wedding they shot in January, just beautiful! Make sure you read more for some of my favourite images from Coralee & Alex. Welcome to The Big Day x

What to wear: Valentines Dinner

Needing the perfect outfit for a date night on Valentine's Day? Whether you've been hooked up for two weeks or 10 years, it's time to pull out all the stops.

If you stick with the all favourite 'little black dress' you can't go too wrong. I'm just loving this sweet wee number from Country Road. The fringed halter neck, mesh panel and pockets (I do love a good pocket dress!) give this dress a sweet, but sophisticated feel. And, because it's Valentine's day, make sure you add a little red to your outfit to give it some passion. I love that this red clutch is called 'Angela'...oh how fitting! And the nail polish is great, especially given the name 'Blowing Raspberries'. The little strappy numbers are from ASOS, but with free delivery to New Zealand, who could say no. And I just couldn't resist finishing the outfit with this sweet Boh Runga gold arrow pendant.

J'taime!

Friday I'm In Love

Ever since my best friends wedding I have been in love with the concept of a same day edit wedding film, and I have been hanging out to show you a film by the super-talented Logan McMillan from Cinorama and Gorilla Pictures.  Logan filmed my best friends wedding and while we were all enjoying the reception, Logan and his crew put the film together to be shown to everyone just in time for dessert!  It was fabulous for the bride + groom and all the guests to see the day on film before the day was over - there were a few laughs and lots of smiles which was the absolute perfect end to a perfect day.

So for this week's Friday I'm In Love, I'm very excited to show you a wedding film Logan shot of Dave + Nicola.  I adore this film, everything from the music by Florence + The Machine to the classically beautiful bride's gorgeous chandelier earrings to that amazing filming location in the field (oh my gosh those photos would have been unbelievable!)  Logan is a professional film maker and photographer with a lot of his work being for musicians, companies and in advertising and fortunately for us he does work in New Zealand and Internationally, so if you want one of these amazing films for your big day, you can contact him here.

Enjoy this bit of loveliness!  Happy Friday x

Little Slice of NZ

Happy Waitangi Day!  In honour of New Zealand's national day it was fitting to do an inspiration board dedicated to New Zealand, and I had so much fun finding some cute NZ inspired images to show you - how sweet is that lovely necklace from Copper Kowhai, I'm thinking that would be a perfect bridesmaids gifts for a NZ destination wedding!

I was lucky enough to spend Waitangi Day with some close friends at a good kiwi lunch hosted by Ang B with a BBQ, beers and rocky road!  How blessed we are to have great friends, I hope your Waitangi Day gave you a chance to spend time with those you love and feel proud to be a kiwi in our little slice of the world! x
