Pantone Colour of the Year: Emerald

Happy 1st of May! If you haven't already heard, the winner of the Pantone Colour of the Year for 2013 is...Emerald!

Pantone release a winning colour every year and predict that this will show up in Fashion, Home and of course, Weddings. This year, this is what they said about this Lush colour: "Lively. Radiant. Lush… A color of elegance and beauty that enhances our sense of well-being, balance and harmony."

If you are bold and trendy enough to encorporate this colour into your day, there are no limits to what you can do. The emerald wedding dress is to-die-for and would go perfectly with the gold and emerald cuff. No inspiration board would be without some fabulous coloured shoes and these ones will not disappoint. Be sure to check out the detailing on the sequined dress and how awesome is that cake...be sure to check out the styled dessert table that accompanies it.

Green with envy...? I know I am. x

What To Wear • Autumn Wedding Guest

How was your weekend? We were so lucky to have some fabulous balmy Autumn days in our part of the country, I almost forgot it was actually Autumn! I was able to catch up with two lovely friends yesterday who I haven't seen in quite awhile, and I just loved being able to sit down and talk for hours!

Whenever I am invited to a wedding, my 'planning' self comes out and I obsess a little over what to wear! I do love that as wedding guests we put so much time and effort into an outfit, it's important to feel the part as a wedding guest and it's definitely a chance to dress up and look fab. With Autumn now well and truly here, it can be a bit of a challenge to find a gorgeous outfit that's going to keep you that little bit warmer well into the night, and this outfit would be just perfect for one of our true sunny Autumn days, teemed with a cute cardi or jacket for later on and if it was just a little too cold you could wear some sheer tights which would look perfect with these fantastic Mimco heels. To top it off, I love this fab cut-out waist belt from Cue that you would definitely wear again whether it be to work or dinner out and I couldn't resist adding in this Tilly Clutch by Saben (my favourite bag designers!).

Friday I'm In Love

I hope you all had a lovely ANZAC day yesterday and took a moment to remember those brave soliders that have fallen before us.

It made me a bit nostalgic and want to dig up the history of my relatives and what they went through. I've heard my parents relay my relatives war stories, but now more than ever it's so imporant to have these stories written down so that our children will know what they went through and that it wasn't in vein.

I found this lovely picture of a 1940s couple getting married post war and wondered what their story was. I do get caught up in the romance of thinking of the soldier coming home to marry his beloved and how he proposed, was it arranged before he left, was it by letter or when he returned possibly?

Then I found this...a video montage (Yes, I repeat MONTAGE) of soliders returning home and surprising their loved ones with a proposal.

I mean, who could say no to a man in uniform right? So, grab a cuppa sit back and enjoy the show.

Happy Friday x

Pick of the Month: Poppy

Today is ANZAC day and because of that, my 'Pick of the Month' is the mighty Poppy. This vibrant flower serves as a reminder of all the brave men and women who have fought to protect the things that Kiwi's hold dear. I hope you manage to pin on a Poppy and take a moment to remember them this ANZAC day.

In case you didn't know, Poppies are the first flowers that grew in the battlefields of Flanders in Belgium during World War I and are a symbol of remembrance and hope. New Zealand's first Poppy Day was held in 1922.

The poppy is a bold, whimsical flower with a dark, interesting center and colorful paper petals.  They are available, most famously in red, but also in orange, yellow, pink, cream and lavender. Since poppies aren’t as long lasting as others, they have to be arranged very soon before their use.  When used in bouquets, it should be a hand-tied bouquet with the ends of the stems exposed so that when it is not in use, it can drink.

I love the idea of creating an interesting centerpiece by standing a few poppies in a row, (in a base of floral foam) as if they were growing there. Poppies look lovely in a bunch by themselves or add with anemoenes, tulips, gerbera daisies and ranunculus.

Lemon Sorbet

Lemons are one of those versatile fruits that make such a bright statement and if you're thinking yellow as a colour for your wedding, then it's easy to incorporate some shades of lemon into your big day no matter what season you are getting married in. Lemons make a perfect addition to a table setting, drink stand or desert table and look fantastic in mason jars like on top of this fabulous lemon ombre wedding cake - and speaking of fabulous, how amazing is that ring!

Ruby & Willow Stationery • Sarah + Andrew

One thing I do truly love about planning a wedding is the stationery, it could be that I just love stationery in general, but what's so wonderful is how you have the ability to make your stationery all about you as a couple, your style, and also give guests a hint of the loveliness to come on your wedding day! Someone who does this amazingly is Kate Holland from Ruby & Willow (and of Magnolia Rouge fame!). Ruby & Willow has been creating beautiful wedding stationery since 2005 and has a gorgeous collection you can choose from, but will also create customised stationery and the ever popular letter press for her couples - and Kate can create stationery for couples based anywhere, so even if you live overseas you can get your hands on this beautiful stationery. Ruby & Willow are also one of The Professionals and we can't rate the work Kate does highly enough!

This gorgeous stationery design was customised for Sarah + Andrew who got married in Wanaka and wanted a fun, whimsical invitation design for their outdoor wedding. Read more to see the rest of this lovely stationery design!

Friday I'm In Love

Today's Friday I'm In Love is just a little bit different to other Friday's in that it's some marriage vows. I have fallen in love with the gorgeous gold foil prints from Lara Casey in the USA (and yes they ship to NZ!) and wanted to show you one of my favourites. I love how Lara's used different typography to print these vows, and think they look so beautiful in gold foil. This would make the perfect gift for your bride or groom to be, or even a wedding gift put into a beautiful white frame, and they're only $20 USD (which isn't too much more in NZD at the moment)!

I hope you have a beautiful weekend whatever you've got planned, the weather is not looking to fabulous for most of the country so I hope where you are you get some sun, or otherwise take the chance to wrap up warm with a nice glass of wine! Happy Friday x

All white theme - Hello May!

We've stumbled across a new and awesome Blog and Magazine from our fellow friends across the ditch in Australia called Hello May. They have lots of fun and edgy content and gorgeous weddings and I"m just swooning over this 'all white' collection of goodness they have put together on their blog.

I love the idea of using a colour as your theme and white is such a magical idea. I'm also a fan of the bridesmaids wearing white as well as the bride, you would think it could be too much, but I think it looks so whimsical. Classic white letterpress invitations are anything but simple when done on a gorgeous thick paper stock. And you just have to love those white on white cakes and dessert table...

...I'm already dreaming of a winter wonderland wedding inspiration board as we speak.

Custom Inspiration Board: Renee + Vaughan

Well, we had such a great response and comments from our last Custom Inspiration Board that we couldn't resist doing another one.

Vaughan whisked Renee away on a romantic jaunt one cold winters day that ended in her saying 'YES!" and now they are busy planning to 'Tie the Knot' later this year in a beautiful garden ceremony. This will be followed by a fun filled reception in the permanant marquee onsite. Renee made it clear that "as most of our guests are travelling, we want to make sure they have a good time" so they have opted for a band to kick off their great night. With the gorgeous theme of oh-so-classy Black & White and Coral, this day is sure to be one guests won't forget!

It's been such a fun board to put together, and as always, I've spent way too much time pouring over gorgeous inspirations from around the globe. With such a classy theme, I love that some items could be more detailed, ie like the cake above, and that some details (like the centrepieces) could be as simple as some elegant single blooms dotted down the table.

Renee also mentioned about keeping a bottle aside of their 'toasting' wine for future anniversaries. I love this idea and think that you could easily get some custom wine labels printed with your own very unique monogram or initials.

Renee and Vaughan, you seem like such a great couple and I love that you are going the extra mile to make sure that your guests have a great day. I think it's so special to have your four niece and nephews to lead you down the aisle and I just love hearing how excited you are about planning your Big Day.

We can't wait to hear all about your plans and hope to help out with anything you need along the way. We can already tell that you will make a gorgeous bride and groom and can't wait to see the photos!!!

Wedding Party App

I hope you had a wonderful weekend whatever you got up to! For some of you it will have been filled with wedding planning, and by the way this year is flying by (I mean, it's mid-April already!) your big day will be here before you know it. I don't know about you but I keep finding myself saying how fast this year is going, it almost seems like there is not enough hours in the day sometimes - especially when it comes to the weekend and then Monday is here all too fast!

As smart phones become the way we use social media, browse the internet, take pictures (some even better than your standard point and shoot digital cameras) and communicate in general, it's no surprise at all that you can now incorporate a smart phone app into your wedding. Wedding Party is an easy to use app that gets your guests involved in your wedding from the start, and a way of getting your guests perspective of your big day in pictures, from their view of you walking down the aisle, their photos of the crazy friends on the dance floor and what people got up to when you and the bridal party were away having photos...
