Soft Mint

It was only going to be a matter of time before we created a mint-themed inspiration board!  Mint inspired weddings started to show their popularity in the USA early in 2012 when we also started to see an increase in soft hues and pastels, and I've noticed more soft mint touches in New Zealand weddings since mid 2012.  Some wedding blogs are saying mint is going to be one of the wedding colours for 2013 and I think with gorgeous shades of mint like in that fabulous cake, it's a colour we won't be seeing going anywhere anytime soon!

Pick of the Month: Hydrangea

We thought it would be useful to give you a 'pick of the month' and let you know what our favourite flower is for that particular month. January's flower just has to be the gorgeous Hydrangea.

These pretty flowers are available from December to May and there are so many different varieties and colours. Think deep purple and blue hues right through to reds, pinks and the classic white. The colour of flower is influenced by the nutirent status (pH level) of the soil, so different soils create different colours. Pretty cool eh?

I found some amazing ideas online using Hydrangeas in your wedding, from a sweet ribbon wrapped bouquet to a stunning flowing Hydrangea table runner! These simple flowers can look so effective whether you use just one stem in a simple vintage bottle or if you bunch them together to create a much more dramatic look.

Here are some of my favourite pins from our 'The Flowers' board on Pinterest. Enjoy x

The Big Day Advertising • Made From Scratch

The Big Day did something exciting last week - we started our official advertising campaign!  We are still bubbling with excitement because we have the most gorgeous advert (above) on the most gorgeous NZ blog, Made From Scratch.

Ever since we contacted the truly sweet Rachael McMahon, we were pretty sure this was the perfect place for The Big Day to advertise, and we now have our lovely advert (be sure to tell us what you think!) on the Made From Scratch site and in the Made From Scratch directory.  I don't know where to start to tell you about all of the lovely things on Made From Scratch, but as Rachael puts it, 'Made From Scratch has blossomed into a trove of simple delicious home baking which you can learn at one of my delicious baking classes, DIY, wedding, living and celebration themed treasures to inspire you to live the most handmade life.'  I think Ang & I might just have to make our way to one of Rachael's baking classes one day!  Make sure you read more to see some mouth-watering baking images and a New Zealand Weddings Magazine feature by Made From Scratch, and be sure to visit Rachael's gorgeous site and keep an eye out for our lovely advert! x

Style Me Pretty Weddings

Well after waiting patiently - ok so not really patiently if you consider I was actually excited about going to the mailbox each day! - our Style Me Pretty Weddings book has finally arrived!  Ang & I spent some time this morning adoring this book over some peppermint tea and mint slice (yum!) and we're so much in love with it we've decided to buy another one so we can have one each at our own homes, and we just may have decided to get another one to give away to one of our lovely readers later this year... stay tuned!

This book is full to the brim with gorgeous wedding inspiration, photography, colours, themes and some of the most beautiful wedding styling I have seen.  Abby Larson has really thought of everything, categorising the content into 5 main styles; classic, modern, rustic, whimsical and al fresco and has also included 30+ pages of DIY projects. I must say however, what I love most about this book (other than the amazing images) is actually the end, where Abby has written 'A Blessing for Style-Obsessed Brides Everywhere'.  Here is a little excerpt; 'Love and Details, my friends, are not mutually exclusive.  If you allow them to walk hand in hand, your wedding will be nothing short of magic'.  Now for someone who adores the true love of weddings but can't get past focusing on the little details, that is sweet.  Did I mention this book would be a perfect gift for a bride to be?  Read more for a look at some of my favourite images (so far!) from this very lovely book. x

Friday I'm In Love

What I love about Friday's (other than it's almost the weekend - yay!) is that I can share some sweet images and films with you as part of our Friday I'm In Love features, and what's even better is being able share work by wonderful NZ wedding professionals.  This week it's two fabulous and very talented photographers, Coralee & Alex! This lovely and very gorgeous couple are based in Grey Lynn, Auckland and will happily travel the North Island (and beyond) - plus meet up with you to get to know you before your big day (I love that!).  This adorable and heartwarming image from their facebook page is called 'a special moment for Grandma'.  I don't know about you but I love it when Grandparents get to have a special moment or play a special part in a wedding.  I was so fortunate to have my wonderful Grandma at my wedding and it was an absolute treasure to have her involved, something that was so special to her but also to us.  Don't you just love this image, and how adorable is this Grandma?  You can just tell how super proud and happy she is - it's beautiful!

Happy Friday! x

Polka Dot Dotty

When planning your big day, you will probably try to carry a theme throughout to help tie everything together. A theme can be anything from colour, a quote or even song lyrics. But I just love the thought of having fun with a polka dot theme. Dots can still be completely stylish but they also hint at something a little more fun and quirky from the happy couple.

Can't you just imagine sitting down at that outdoor vintage setting with recycled chairs and that gorgeous sheer tablecloth. I absolutely adore the dress and shoes combo of the bride walking down the steps into a shower of confetti. The spotty cake is a fun take on the 3 tier classic and the fabric envelopes are such a lovely idea and add another dimension of texture to your stationary. The polka dot shoes on the bride and bow tie on the groom are a great idea to add a little polka dot dottery and show a hint of your fun personality.

Have you heard about eyelash extensions but never tried them out? Well I have, and I am now officially addicted! The whole process only takes 30 minutes and you can have a choice of lashes depending on what look you want to create. I hereby recommend getting these done as a Wedding Day must have!

What to wear: Wedding Guest

Stuck on an outfit to wear to a summer wedding? I'm just loving this take on the classic peplum dress with the cut of the frill, the wide pleated belt and cut away armhole. Team this stunning duck egg blue shade with sheer satin peeptoes and a sparkling clutch. Add some graduated shades and some drop diamante earrings and you are sure to look the part for the day and well into the night. Pass the champers darling!

Friday I'm In Love

Well it's late in the day for this week's Friday I'm In Love, so hopefully you're sitting at home with a glass of wine planning a fun weekend!  Speaking of fun, if you haven't seen a stop motion film then you really have to check out this happy, cute film featuring this oh-so-sweet couple, Adele + Layton.  This engagement session was shot by Delphine from Delphine Photography in the hills around Canterbury - even the music makes me smile!

Happy Friday and a happy weekend too! x
