Pick of the Month: Roses

Can you believe it's the last day of February already? That also means that Autumn is just around the corner.

For February, our Pick of the Month would have to be the fabulous Rose.

This classical fragrant flower is available in so many different varieties and colours. Breeders have outdone themselves over the years bringing so many new and amazing colours and varieties, each with their own different meaning. You can choose from whites, ivories, creams, coffees, dusky pinks, baby pinks, hot pinks, reds, maroons, yellows, peaches and lavendars.

This is such a timeless flower and there are so many ways you can incorporate it into your big day. The trend has gone away from tight bunches of roses all in one colour and now we are seeing the beautiful rose, mixed in with other flowers like peonies, ranunculus, berries and greenery. There is a much more relaxed and rustic feel to the Rose bouquets we are seeing and the combinations are quite simply, gorgeous.

Be sure to check out all our gorgeous Rose bouquets on our 'The Flowers' Pinterest page.  Enjoy x

Awards Season Inspiration: Oscars 2013

Well the big day has arrived...well for the celebrities of the world that is. The biggest night on Hollywood's calendar has been and gone, and with it has come an amazing collection of drool worthy wedding inspired gowns (I mean, really it's all about the dresses isn't it?).

And we were not disappointed! There were so, so many bridal inspired dresses for us to swoon over. Lots of blush, sparkle and gold graced the red carpet this year.

There were some amazing wavy hairstyles that were oh so old-school Hollywood and the makeup this year was flawless.

Keep reading for our favourite wedding dress looks from this years Oscars.

What to Wear: Glam Hens Night

Happy Monday! I hope you had a wonderful weekend (they really are just all too short though aren't they?!) mine was very very relaxing and spent soaking up a bit of this gorgeous Summer sun.

We are loving bringing you our What to Wear posts and putting together some fab finds that are accessible to us in our gorgeous little corner of the earth. A hens night is the perfect time to get your glam on and enjoy a night of fun with the girls, and even though the beau in your life won't be there, it's definitely no excuse not to get all sparkled up! Black and silver make a striking team - starting with a sequined little black dress and adding some silver sparkles, it's ok to then match it with very subtle hints of gold such as the detailing on this gorgeous Max clutch and gold nails peeking out from these hot t-bar heels. I adore this bangle from Dyrberg Kern and one is definitely going to be added to my jewellery collection! This is definitely one of those outfits that says you're ready for a fab night, and a glass of my favourite champers Veuve Clicquot would go down a treat while rocking this outfit!

You can check out our other What to Wear posts by using our Search the Archives 'by theme' box on the right. x

Friday I'm In Love

I just can't believe we are nearing the end of February already and I'm a little sad as that means we're also nearing the end of a beautiful kiwi Summer, but pretty excited too as it means we're going to start seeing some of that gorgeous Autumn and Winter wedding inspiration coming through. This week we welcomed bubblerock to The Professionals on the big day and if you've read their welcome post, you'll know today we're going to feature their super cool old-school style of wedding day filming... super8!

When I saw this film, it bought back happy memories from my childhood - I love how it is almost a film showing 'the way we were' and I definitely think looking back at one of these films of your big day in 20 years time would be pretty special. What is cool about this is you can get bubblerock to create one of these fantastic super8 films as well as an HD film of your special day. This is one of those films that won't make you cry, it will probably make you smile and invoke special memories from your childhood for you too! Enjoy x

Ketaki + Scott • engagement by Kate Grewal

Oh my, when the fabulously talented NZ photographer Kate Grewal sent through this engagement shoot, I was overwhelmed not just by these stunning images but also by how gorgeous this couple are and how obviously apparent it is that they adore each other! Kate said this couple was made for each other, through and through, and from seeing these images I couldn't agree more! Sometimes it's such a rare thing to be able to capture love on camera, but Kate has captured this perfectly in these wonderful images. This beautiful engagement shoot of Ketaki + Scott was photographed on the dunes of the North Island's West Coast and Kate is also shooting their wedding in April - I can't wait to see some images from their wedding and will definitely be keeping an eye out on Kate's blog!

The Professionals • bubblerock

I must tell you, Ang + I are so blessed to be able to get to know some wonderful New Zealand professionals along our journey with The Big Day and it's even more exciting for us to be able to share and recommend them to you as part of The Professionals. I'm super excited to tell you about bubblerock, our newest fabulous wedding professional to join The Big Day. bubblerock are the fabulous husband and wife team of Steph + Robin, who do oh-so-beautiful wedding film-making and photography. Seriously, this couple can create a wedding day film that can capture all the emotions of a wedding day perfectly and even bring a tear to your eye, how amazing that must be for the very lucky couple to have those memories to keep forever! They also do a pretty cool old-school style of filming - if you want to see what I'm talking about, keep an eye out for the Friday I'm In Love this Friday!

bubblerock are based in Auckland but do work nationwide and internationally, and they really know how to travel! This couple are true globetrotters and shoot in countries like France and USA so will bring some fabulous international experience with them to your big day.

I love this from Steph + Robin... There is nothing more precious than a memory: it is an imprint in our minds of what we love, care for and treasure so much in our lives. Being able to capture the essence of a memory and keep it as real and vibrant as when it happened is a chance that we never will stop being excited about. Memories are created all along the journey of life by us, by those who came before and those following our footsteps and this is why bubblerock is passionate about collecting with you and for you, to treasure for generations to come. How could you not want to get someone as inspired as this to film your big day?!

You can find out more about Steph + Robin here, or check out more of their work on their website. Here is a cute trailer of the fabulous work bubblerock produce and make sure you read more to check out a few of my favourite images of their wedding photography. Welcome to The Big Day x

Awards Season Inspiration: Baftas + Grammys 2013

Hello friends, I trust you had a great weekend. I managed to get out of Christchurch to the fabulous West Coast for some wonderful celebrations with dear school friends and family. I love going back to my home town and the mighty Coast did not disappoint, the weather and views were stunningI I was also very impressed to hear that so many of our nearest and dearest are following our blog with such interest and I'm hoping this next post doesn't disappoint.

Last weekend was pretty full on with both the 2013 Grammy Awards and the 2013 BAFTAs on the same day.

There was some interesting looks on the carpet and a more conservative feel to the Grammys this year with a communication going out for our stars to tone it down (some obviously didn't bother reading the memo!).

There was still a nod to bridal couture, but you would be a braver soul than me to rock some of these interesting frocks.

Read more to see my pick of the best from both awards, which one tickles your fancy?

Custom Inspiration Boards

There is so much wedding inspiration out there it can sometimes seem so overwhelming trying to decide on even the smallest things, and then trying not to change your mind later on! I remember purchasing the fabric for my bridesmaids dresses and then a few days later wondering if I had chosen the right colour and spending a couple of weeks considering other options before finally settling on the colour I had already picked in the first place! That could just be me... but I definitely sympathise with anyone struggling with the decision making process!

We've decided we'd love to help you in your wedding planning journey and do some gorgeous custom inspiration boards for a lucky few of our wonderful readers! All you have to do is make sure you like us on Facebook and then email us at hello@thebigday.co.nz, telling us a little about your wedding plans and we will select four of our lucky readers to have their very own custom inspiration board made for them - exciting!  We will then get in touch with the four lucky readers with some questions so we can make sure we create the best custom board inspiring your big day.

Also make sure you go and have a look at The Inspiration page for some of our beautiful The Big Day wedding inspiration! x

Friday I'm In Love

Wow it's Friday again...how quickly is this month going?!? I hope there was some nice Valentine's treats out there for you, or even just a chance to tell your loved one, how much they mean to you.

Everyone knows I love a good wedding, and for me, one of my favourite moments of the day is watching the groom (even if for just a quick peak) as the bride makes her grand entrance.

The next time you are at a wedding be sure to catch a glimpse of the proud man waiting at the alter while everyone else's eyes are focused on the stunning bride. You will see a wave of emotion from the groom - excitement, joy, happiness, nervousness, anticipation...and you may just catch a glimpse of pure unrequited love.

I just love this montage of images and had to share with you all.

Happy Friday! x

Be My Valentine

Happy Valentine's Day to all you lovers out there!

If you are planning a wedding in February, I love the idea of using 'Valentines' as a theme.

There are so many amazing ideas you can use for this love inspired theme. For me, it's all about the heart!

I was swooning over this Giant Heart Welcome Board. What a great idea to have to welcome all your guests and show a hint of what's to follow. This gradient cake looks A-MA-ZING, almost too good to eat. Surely one of those cake layers is red velvet. The heart shaped balloons are a great idea for wedding photos or just for decoration. Of course you should have a kissing booth at your wedding!!! I really love this retro style booth and great for guests to have photos between the ceremony and reception. Yummmm heart shaped macarons, what will they think of next. And you just can't have a Valentine's Day Inspiration Board without showing the classic Vivienne Westwood heart shoe. Just imagine all the fun you can have with this fabulous theme, it will surely be a wedding to remember.

P.S don't be afraid to use a love/heart themed wedding any time of the year. You really can make any day of the year your very own custom made Valentine's Day!
